CEO – William Tunstall-Pedoe

William Tunstall-Pedoe founded True Knowledge based on research he began in 1998 and he has more than twenty-five years experience of both developing and commercially exploiting software products that push the boundaries of what is possible in Artificial Intelligence.

In addition to inventing the technology on which True Knowledge is based, William is also credited with being the first and only person to develop software that can solve and explain cryptic crossword clues. He is also the developer of Anagram Genius – a software product that has been used by approximately five million people and which generated the anagrams that appear in the best-selling Da Vinci Code book and movie.

William has a First class degree in Computer Science from Cambridge University.

CTO – Graham French

From the age of 10, Graham has been developing software for a living, concentrating over the last 12 years on cutting-edge web and mobile services.

Graham has had a number of roles in the UK start up scene including time at ShoZu where as VP of Engineering he was responsible for the team that developed an award winning social media service.

At True Knowledge, he leads a great team of engineers who are building and making Evi even more helpful to her users.

At home, Graham has his hands full with his twin sons,is a curry connoisseur and participates in the odd marathon or triathlon.
Graham studied Physics at the University of Birmingham where he enjoyed playing with superconductors, liquid nitrogen and wondering how things worked.

Head of Knowledge – Laura James

Laura James has a strong background in high tech research, development and productisation, with a focus on delivering new technologies to people in the most useful and usable forms. She first worked on industrial control systems, before moving onto a broad range of projects around embedded and wireless systems, at AT&T Labs in both Cambridge and Silicon Valley.

As Vice President of Engineering at AlertMe.com, Laura took a back of the envelope idea (“broadband home security”) through to a complex consumer electronics product and service shipping in volume in just two years. Prior to this, she completed a PhD in high speed optical networking at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory, in collaboration with Intel Research. Most recently Laura worked on innovative software for higher education, as Chief Operating Officer for the Centre for Applied Research in Educational Technologies at the University of Cambridge.

Laura holds MEng and PhD degrees from the University of Cambridge. She is a Chartered Engineer, received the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Leadership Award, and was a NESTA Crucible Fellow in 2007.

Investors

The company was initially financed by the founder, other private investors and the East of England Development Agency (EEDA).

The company subsequently received venture finance from Octopus Ventures.
